since being a bit out of touch with constantly writing english... and for that matter constantly speaking english, i feel my grasp of the english language is begining to loosen... while i find the irony in these pictures, i just feel there is nothing i can do to improve the situation...
worse still, you can't get to practice your english with the townfolks... not many speak it well enough for you to have any sort of meaningful conversation without resorting to having explain things in either mandarin or malay...
my uncle is in the midst of intervewing form 5 leavers to fill post in government and he commented that their english were also not up to scratch.... most don't speak it... they can understand it but cannot speak a single word of english...
what is the use of changing the local education curriculum to english when the students don't take the effort to master the language... just because you speak bahasa or mandarin at home does not mean you are master of those languages... english is not that widely spoken so one has to put in effort to at the very least have a basic understanding of the language... or be able to form simple sentences...
back to me... i'm in the middle of a crisis... my deteriorating english is cause for concern... it is one of the subjects that i am good at and now i feel like i am loosing grip...
people here don't really want to make the effort to speak good english... they feel it is too difficult... if you explain the correct use of the language to them, they just brush it off as you being a show off... and the odd thing is the so-called professionals here tend to mis-use the language too...
so i hope i have not reached a point of incurrable lateness to my current conditions... otherwise... i am destined to just be a blogger with broken english...
